So when are you going to move to AZ and we can hike this great state?Spencerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03351417002757876346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7770040501124297598.post-59045332026180290362009-02-20T17:14:00.000-05:002009-02-20T17:14:00.000-05:00Likely the giant Ozark walking stick (Megaphasma d...Likely the giant Ozark walking stick (Megaphasma denticrus).

Nice blog - I found you through Allison's "Ozark Highlands of Missouri." I'm an entomologist but also an avid day hiker (especially during winter, no bugs to distract me) - in fact I'm doing Hawn's Whispering Pines Trail (10 mile version) tomorrow.

You might be interested in some of the posts I've done on the Ozark Trail.

regards--tedAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7770040501124297598.post-41684878681767330512009-02-19T00:22:00.001-05:002009-02-19T00:22:00.001-05:00When I said "flower" above I meant "plant"When I said "flower" above I meant "plant"Granthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11216967237392666778noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7770040501124297598.post-81647969358882820892009-02-19T00:22:00.000-05:002009-02-19T00:22:00.000-05:00Dude, yer right. In fact, I've always been interested in several of these topics.

I get really annoyed that I don't know the names of the various trees and plants. I tried to start learning them but it's hard to learn from books. I had a botanist friend in college who could tell you the scientific name of about any flower you could find. It was awesome and I wish I could do it as well.

Astronomy is good for photography, at least. The picture you showed us is, I suspect, a time lapse photo. With a good camera you can get some really nice photos this way.

The two classes I talked about taking all through college and never got to were latin and geology. Incredibly fascinating subjects (the other was writing poetry but I did actually take that). I love geology. Interestingly, the land of your nativity is probably more interesting than the Ozarks from that perspective. It is from a tarantula perspective as well. *sigh*

And of course, bugs. Well, you know about that.Granthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11216967237392666778noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7770040501124297598.post-85133824853694550152009-02-18T20:29:00.000-05:002009-02-18T20:29:00.000-05:00Heber! When I saw the rock in your hand I immediately thought it looked like a fulgarite--which is what forms when lightning touches sand and melts it a little. They are very cool--google it!

Also, what a HUMONGOUS walking stick. Holy shmokes!Lybihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11296953133330527772noreply@blogger.com
